City Center is a live music venue and private event space in downtown Champaign that plays host to a variety of different events. We were asked to update their visual identity to be more compelling and adaptable to their ever-changing needs. In addition to building a brand with the flexibility to work with a multitude of events, we also needed something that would speak to both those attending the events and those booking events in equal doses. While we needed to elevate the City Center’s marketing to their concert-goers, our goal was also to establish the City Center as a premier entertainment venue in the eyes of performers and booking agents.

Because the name is directional, our solution was to use the ‘pin’ everyone is familiar with as our main logo shape. Their previous logo was tied too specifically to one type of music and did not reflect the true diversity of their events. The new icon uses a shape we all know but with a completely customized ‘double C’ icon as the pin’s center. Doing this allows the brand to use the shared equity already present in the pin and guitar pick shapes but makes it totally unique to the City Center.

City Center plays host to a multitude of different events and needed a brand with flexibility. Their assets, and more specifically their color palette, needed to be able to market themselves to rock bands as well as brides-to-be. We created a diverse set of color families giving the designer the ability to adapt the color scheme for what is most appropriate for that event.
