More than just a campus bar, KAMS is a University of Illinois campustown institution — a right of passage for most students they won’t soon forget, though the details may be a bit fuzzy.

First open in 1933, KAMS had existed in the same building since the 70’s and while for some this only added to their experience, it was past time for this local legend to move into a safer, more hospitable, and much larger brand new building. This period of transition provided the perfect opportunity to reevaluate the KAMS visual identity and to clean up the fractured brand assets they had been using for years.

KAMS Branding, Signage, and Apparel

For many people, KAMS is tied very closely to their memories of college and being young. It’s a brand that has the ability to instantly take someone back in time.

Our goal was to honor that tradition as closely as possible by re-drawing the logo to match versions of the original signage. Though it has been through a few variations over the years, this iconic sign on the front of the bar is what most people visually associate with KAMS. Versions of their existing logo assets made attempts to recreate this sign, but were inaccurate and incongruent. Our new logo matches the original sign lettering as closely as possible while correcting some inconsistencies, making it suitable for contemporary usages.
